Mr. Murray qualified as a dentist with an honors degree and continued post graduate training at the Dublin Dental Hospital followed by private practice during which he was awarded a fellowship in general dentistry (FDS) in 1992. He returned to Trinity college to complete his medical training and continued to work part time in dental practice concentrating on oral surgery and orthodontics. He qualified in Medicine with honors in Surgery in 1996.
Following two years of surgical training he was awarded the Fellowship in surgery (FRCSI). He undertook further specialization in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and in 2000 was successful in the Fellowship in Oral Surgery (FFD –Oral Surgery).
He began his Plastic Surgery training with two years in Cork and completed this in Dublin, in 2005, following which he began the first of three subspecialist training programs in Toronto, Canada. In September of 2005 he returned to sit both the Royal College of Surgeons and the European Board, final examinations in Plastic Surgery both of which he was successful in (FRCS(Plast) & EBOPRAS Fellowship).
His first year of plastic surgery subspecialisation in Toronto was in Reconstructive Microsurgery, mainly neck reconstruction and post mastectomy breast reconstruction as well as surgery for facial reanimation.
This was followed by a year and a half of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. The first six months in adult facial reconstruction where he developed a particular interest in the use of advanced technology for the management of Craniomaxillofacial congenital and acquired deformity.
His final year in Toronto was spent as Craniofacial Fellow at the world renowned Sick Kids Hospital, where he gained extensive expertise in all aspects of pediatric acquired and congenital deformities especially, craniosynostosis and orthognathic surgery.
In 2007, Mr. Murray finally returned to Europe and completed a 3 month Fellowship in cosmetic surgery at the renowned McIndoe Surgical Centre in the UK, where he had the opportunity to work with 16 plastic surgeons and learn the most up to date techniques in cosmetic plastic surgery.
Mr. Murray has presented over twenty papers at national and international meetings and is widely published with seven articles in peer reviewed journals this year alone. He is a guest reviewer with two major plastic surgery journals including the British Journal of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
He has received 4 scholarships and wards including the Gussie Meighan Fellowship award which financed the 8 week clinical attachment at the famous ‘Hospital Manuel Gea Gonzales’ in Mexico city working the world renowned Fernando Ortiz-Monasterio, a pioneer in craniofacial distraction osteogenesis.
